It was windy that day, however here's my problem. They were very nice and offered a tour for another day, but we were leaving that night, so we couldn't do it. On our way to check-in I received a call they had canceled the tour due to weather conditions. We were staying at a nearby hotel, so we walked to the check in desk by the Hilton Hawaiian village. We had done a tour with them 15 years before and were looking forward to this tour. I booked the Premium Submarine tour for December 24th. If you do decide to try your luck, go for the bigger submarine the extra money is worth it just to be sat comfortably. This was not only a waste of money but most importantly a waste of time. Towards the end, I was just glad to get back on the boat and get on with my day. We were sat on the side that barely had any fishes which was even more disappointing. One turtle and some fishes here and there and that's it. The guides were nice but didn't distract from the fact that we barely saw any fishes. I thought t was quite small still and we were very close to other people. Once at the submarine, I couldn't believe this was the best option. The snacks and drinks are overpriced so bring your own. The guide on the boat was hilarious (can't remember his name) and made the right so entertaining that we had no doubt the submarine tour would be great. We waited around a bit and finally got on the boat which takes you to the submarine. As this was a treat, we went for the upgrade option which is the bigger boat and larger window. WE were brought to this beautiful sunny beach near the Hilton and were excited about the trip we were about to take. We were picked up by the Atlantis tour bus and had a nice ride. WE booked our tour via a travel agent and thought the $100+ dollars would be worth it for the adventure. ![]() As we are not strong swimmers we left out the snorkelling but still wanted the experience of seeing fishes in their natural element. The regular price is a bit spendy but seems worth it as this trip provides an experience that really can't be achieved anywhere else that we are aware of.My friend and were very excited about this trip. Have to admit that we were able to purchase our seats with a military discount. Our English headset narration was fine, and since we were sitting next to the tour guide, she made an effort to point out interesting things to us (in English), so we wouldn't miss them. Because we needed to take the first trip of the day, we wore headsets that provided English narration, as this first trip was geared towards Japanese visitors so the tour guide narrated in Japanese. We saw many, many schools of fish as well as several species of extremely large fish. The depth that the submarine achieves allows a very different and unique viewing experience than can normally be found via shore snorkeling from some of the best places on the Big Island. Got to visit a few planted wrecks as well as man made reefs. (Can't comment on the standard tour.) Staff are very friendly. We took the premium tour, which offers great seating and underwater views. Had a great time this morning taking the Atlantis submarine tour from Waikiki.
